THE VIDEO ARCHIVE

image of a Nizo super 8 camera

Since 1990 I have used a Nizzo Super 8mm movie camera, as well as Sony TR850 and PC 330E camcorders to create guerrilla style documentaries as an artists record of some iconic adventures. Professionally produced, these videos are windows into the past and depict a freedom that was available in a different era to those who were happy to take a few risks.

The Crossing Painting: 2004

.

In 2004 Clarissa and I were camped on the Mara River in Kenya, East Africa and had the great fortune of having a huge wildebeest crossing a few yards downstream of our location. The noise was deafening and for a few minutes we were treated to a private viewing of one of the natural world's great wildlife spectacles in Africa. This was ironic because we had avoided going to any of the regular crossing places because the melee of vehicles at these events is not what I want to see or take part in. As Paul Augustinus 'the artist' I have a strong purist streak!
That occasion was an inspiration to me and provided me with what I needed to make a painting that satisfied my purist streak. This video is about that event and the painting I made of it.
