'For me wilderness is as much about the sky and clouds as it is about the scenery I might find in some wild place in Africa. I delight in adding dramatic cloudscapes to my paintings and this Kalahari scene reflects that joy I have in the vast wilderness that floats above us. Location of this painting is the southern part of the circular sand ridge that surrounds Nxai Pan in Botswana. This is the point at which the access track from the Maun Nata road crosses a high sand ridge and then descends into the Nxai depression.'
