'In 1982 I camped for 5 weeks next to the floodplains to the south of what was then Moremi Wildlife Reserve in the Okavango, Botswana. The floodplains here teemed with plains game. But the real attraction was the fact that one was able to camp anywhere and there were no tourists. Lions were common, as were leopard. And all of this was within a couple of hours drive from Crocodile Camp outside Maun. This was where I had made my wet season base and where I resupplied after every safari. I have very fond memories of the place depicted in the painting because it was the view I had from underneath a favorite acacia tree in the Chitabe where I liked to make my secret little camp.'
