'This is the second painting of a commission I received from the owner of a vast estate in the Karoo area of South Africa. On his invitation Iraveled there and wandered around for a bit. It was not long before I had found the places that I reckoned would make rather nice landscapes. I was not used to seeing eland in Karoo scenery but on this estate they were numerous and very skittish. I was also not used to seeing this kind of flowing stream in the Karoo - which is a rather arid place. But high mountains means that streams do exist in some parts of the Eastern part of the Karoo. '
