'I spent several months in the 1980s and 1990s camped at Drotsky's camp at Shakawe in the Panhandle area of the Okavango in Botswana getting material for carmine bee eater paintings. The nesting colony was downstream of the camp and only five minutes away by boat. This was convenience personified! I spent hundreds of hours watching the birds from the very close quarters of a hide that I put there.'
