Buffalo, Chief's Island
An aerial view of buffalo crossing a pool in an inlet extending into Chief's Island in the Okavango, Botswana
'Then this happened'

' This painting is based on a series of encounters I had with a group of lions in the Northern part of Chief's Island, in the Okavango, Botswana. Whenever you venture forth from your camp in search of wildlife essentially you are hoping that you will see something out of the ordinary - like a lion kill! That rarely happens. But you hope that it will anyway. The problem with this is that when you do finally luck out one is rarely prepared for it and the whole thing happens in a flash that can sometimes be hard to remember. This occasion was different. We found a lion hidden under a thorn tree waiting for something to happen at a pool at the extremity of where a floodplain reached deep into the dry bush of Chief's Island. We waited, and waited and waited. Finally a group of buffalo emerged from the acacia thorn scrub and lay down in the muddy pool. Then this happened!'
