'This painting was from material that I obtained in 1984 while researching some historical facts for my book Botswana a Brush with the Wild. I was trying to get some background material about Livingstone's journeys in this region in 1851. With that in mind I visited the location of Mamili's village which Livingstone had visited. After that I traveled West to where the Kwando joined the Savuti at Lake Zibadianja Lagoon. There were some efforts then to establish some game reserves on the Namibian side of the Linyanti inside the Linyanti delta but there was virtually nothing on the ground to suggest that when I was there. The wildlife was skittish but I did see see a pair of cheetah attempting to make a kill on one of the larger island. This painting celebrates that occasion.'
