'I never paint seascapes which have onshore wind conditions'

'I like coasts - no matter where they are. I like to watch waves roll in over reefs because my psyche is that of a hard wired surfer. I have lived most of my life next to the ocean so naturally I would paint seascapes and Namibia presented me with so many potential painting ideas to choose from. This painting is of the shoreline close to Mowe Bay in the Skeleton Coast National Park. I never paint seascapes which have onshore wind conditions. I will only paint them with an offshore breeze blowing. This smooths out the waves into distinct lines and there is no chop on the surface - it's classic glassy conditions. Again this is my surfer heritage coming out because surfing is only worth doing if the wind is offshore. That was the case on the morning depicted in this painting. '
