'This painting is one of several I painted from material I obtained over months of observing birds in the Panhandle area of the Okavango in Botswana when I was based at Drotsky's Camp. I spent weeks sitting in a hide I had set up on the bank of the tiny stream just below where I had pitched my tent. I saw many interesting things while I was in that hide including a Pells fishing owl, but it was the egret painted here that entertained me most. It was continuously successful at catching little fish and when it had gulped this down it fluffed up it's feathers in a fantastic demonstration of birdy pleasure.'
