Jau leopard, July flood
A Jau leopard wades through the shallow water of an Okavango floodplain
'I had extensive access to this area'

'Mombo is one of the best places you can go to in the Okavango if you want to have spectacular sightings of cats. By virtue of my friendship with Colin Bell, one of the original owners of Mombo, I had extensive access to this area in the 1990s. I prefer this part of the Okavango in the late dry season when the floods have drained away leaving grassy plains between the islands. During the July floods there is water everywhere! The acacia in the background is a perfectly shaped Tortillis tree that is well known to all visitors to Mombo and which has appeared in many of my paintings of this area.'
