'The Mogohelo River floodplain in the Eastern Okavango in Botswana in the 1980s was a place where for a few years one was easily able to see spectacular male lions with improbably shaggy manes. I camped here several times, just downstream of the Chitabe log bridge. Of course that was a different, more relaxed era when such things were possible although I'm not sure if the original owner of the small lodge at San ta Wani would agree because he would occasionally have to put up with Maun based locals on weekend camping safaris using what he considered (incorrectly at the time) to be his private area.'
