Kalahari rainy season
Two elephants on a plain with thunder clouds in the background in the Kalahari, Botswana
'The smell of the air was intoxicating'

'This painting of mine depicts a scene I observed while on a road trip to Ghanzi, Western Botswana, in Southern Africa in 1988. A cold wind started blowing and clouds built up over the horizon. Shortly afterward the sky was black and there was a torrential downpour which lasted 30 min, after which the clouds dispersed, the sun came out and all the rain water disappeared into the Kalahari sand as if nothing had happened. But the smell of the air was intoxicating - it was so fresh and cool'
