'I watched these plovers trying to draw my attention away from their nearby nest near Serondella in the Chobe National Park in Botswana. The campsite at Serondella was situated right on the riverbank and inland there were some large areas of limestone pavement exposed and the plovers had made their nest on this rocky ground. At first light I would walk out the back and over this area to check what new spoor I could see on the Kasane-Ngoma track. They would try to pull me away from where they had laid eggs in a shallow nest on the limestone by making themselves obvious and noisy.'
