Bee eaters Shakawe
Little bee eaters on a branch near their nesting colony at Shakawe, in the Okavango, Botswana
'The nesting site was only a five minute walk upstream'

'While I was at Shakawe on the Okavango River in Botswana and staying at Drotsky's Camp I obtained lots of material for bird paintings. I had traveled here mainly for Carmine Bee Eater material but a bonus was that there were also lots of Little Bee Eaters in a separate but smaller nesting colony nearby. The bee eater colony was only a five minute walk upstream of the camp's verandah and so this was extremely convenient. No necessity for a boat trip every-time. This painting is of the papyrus beds just adjacent to the colony.'
