TITLE: The Old Jau Bridge
SIZE: 80cm x 120cm
Oil on Canvas
'While I was on a long dugout safari with my wife Clarissa in the Jau area of the Okavango in Botswana we came across this derelict bridge across one of the river channels we were following. These mopane pole bridges are common all across the Okavango, built from easily sourced local materials to provide access for vehicles to the more remote islands where camps or lodges have been built. These very attractive and organic constructions usually last for a few years before being burnt down in some dry season bush fire and are then rebuilt. This was an old one that had been left to rot away when access to this part of the Jau was not needed anymore.'
