'The Linyanti River is part of the Chobe river ecosystem and is the name for the river that flows from the Selinda mouth to Ngoma. Directions of rivers here are dependant on faulting that is part of the Great Rift Valley. On the Northern side of the river it is all swamp and marsh. On the south side it is dry and arid as soon as you get away from the river. The forests here are truly spectacular with huge old acacia trees and vast amounts of dead wood littering the floor. Game paths wind between these trees from the mopane forests to the south and it some places there are deep pans which retain water right until the end of the dry season. There are also lots of tsetse fly here (in the 1980s) which was one of the reasons why not many people made any effort to spend time in this part of Botswana. I spent one month camped here in the 1980s.'
