Kolwezi, Chobe N.P.
A view of the Kolwezi lookout over the Chobe River in Botswana
'Kolwezi remained exactly as Selous had described it'

'This early painting of mine was used on the cover of the reprint of my book Botswana A Brush with the Wild. To find out more about this book click HERE.
The location of this painting is Kolwezi on the Chobe River in Botswana. My first visit to this area was in 1972 just after it had been proclaimed as a National Park. I camped at Serondella which later went on to become a public camping site but in 1972 was still a small village. There were enormous numbers of elephant about and lots of interesting places to drive along the floodplains towards Ngoma but Kolwezi was interesting to me because this exact location was described by F. C. Selous in the 1870s in his book A Hunters Wanderings in Africa. I had read and reread this book when I was at school in Zimbabwe and was gratified to see that nearly one hundred years later in 1972, Kolwezi remained exactly as Selous had described it.'
