'I have been to the Baines Baobabs many times since 1978 but only two of those visits were during the rainy season. This is bleak, harsh country during the dry season when the trees have no leaves on them. During the rains baobabs sprout a vast crown of delicate green leaves which give a shade similar to that of 50% shade cloth which is better than nothing. So my wet season visits were for me to see what the trees looked like during that time of the year when there was also more wildlife about. On one of these visits there was a storm brewing in the distance on the afternoon I arrived and then for a few fleeting minutes the sun illuminated the baobabs with a spectacular evening glow which made the baobabs look much red in colour than they really are. That was the best evening I had ever had there and this painting is of that occasion.'
