My water cooler
Paul Augustinus camp at Serondella in the Chobe National Park in Botswana
'I presume a snake or an eagle got them'

'This is a painting of two very tame francolins that would frequent my camp at Serondella in the Chobe National Park in Botswana. They would arrive in the morning and fuss around the skirt of my tent and then fly up on to my water cooler. I have to admit that I was feeding them crushed Marie biscuits, something that they became quite addicted to. Then one day they stopped coming! I presume that a snake or an eagle got them but for quite a few weeks afterward I would look out my window hoping they would come back.'
