'They were our first Dalls'

'Clarissa and I backpacked the Denali National Park for a few weeks in 1992. Probably if we had left it any longer then we would not have been able to do it because of the strength required when carrying a massive backpack all day long for weeks on end. And at the same time traversing massive changes in elevation. When we arrived back in Durban we were fitter that we had ever been either before of since! Finding wildlife required backbreaking climbs and long treks in rocky terrain in a very cold environment. Late one afternoon we came across these two Dall sheep on a high Alaskan ridge beneath the tallest mountain in North America. They were our first Dall sheep and as it turned out the only ones we would ever see! Thankfully as they grazed slowly in our direction they were unaware of us where we had hunkered down behind some rocks. '
