Zambezi buskbuck surprise
A bushbuck bolts from under a palm thicket next to the Zambezi near the Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe
'Encountering one of these behemoths was always a possibility'

'The Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe is one of the world's great natural wonders. Upstream of the Falls the Zambezi flows through a National Park and several safari areas. These have preserved this stretch of the Zambezi and it's numerous palm covered islands and wildlife is abundant. My mother surprised a leopard on a path in this area which was within walking distance of the Falls Village Municipal Camp where she was living for several years. The footpaths through this area are also liberally covered with elephant dung at certain times of the year indicating the presence of elephants. This added a certain level of anticipation anytime one went for a walk here as encountering one of these behemoths was always a possibility. This happened to me several times over the years as elephants became more habituated and pressed closer to the environs of the Falls. However mostly one saw bushbucks which invariably waited until the last moment to explode out of a palm thicket next to the path.'
